Scenic Route 30A is a winter wonderland without the snow and cold weather! Everything here is more beautiful in the winter. Daytime temperatures hovers in the mid 60s but can sometimes be warmer, the sky is typically bright blue and the humidity is low, making it comfortable enough to enjoy outdoor activities like paddleboarding, fishing, cycling, and hiking. It’s also the best time for off-season perks such as photographing nature, the beach, and the dunes without the typical summer crowds. And it’s in winter that you’ll experience the best sunsets of your life. Watch in awe as the sun hugs the southern sky along the Florida panhandle, setting into the Gulf.

To help you plan your winter getaway, we’ve compiled a list of things to do in winter 30A style!

Go Fishing!

There’s no better time to go fishing on 30A than in the winter! Whether you cast off from a pier or a beach or book a fishing charter, you’re sure to enjoy winter surf fishing either as a newbie or a pro. Some of the best places to fish are off the coast of Destin in Choctawhatchee Bay, or in the Northern Gulf where you can find both freshwater and ocean fishing. Fishing along the Coastal Dune Lakes of South Walton, you’ll find uniquely shaped freshwater dune lakes located in close proximity to the saltwater sea. If you’re looking for a more formal fishing excursion, you can board a fishing charter in Grayton Beach, where you can fish a few miles off the shore of one of 30As most popular beaches.

Stand Up and Paddleboard!

You know you want to try it! 30A is the best place to get started on your stand-up paddleboarding adventure. The calm waters and gentle waves remain throughout the winter months but you’ll have less crowds to contend with. There’s no shortage of vendors who will set you up the best board and gear for your skill-level as well as fun lessons on how to get started. Imagine yourself paddleboarding along the way across exquisite coastal dune lakes, the stunning Choctawhatchee Bay, or the glittering Gulf of Mexico itself. It’s an experience not to be missed.

Enjoy a Breathtaking Bike Ride!

With the cooler temperatures of winter, there’s really no better time to ride a bike in 30A. You can breathe easier, and the trails are not as busy as they are in the summer months.Jump on County Highway 30A‘s 19-mile paved bike path, The Timpoochee Trail, which runs parallel the entire length of the road and passes through all of its famous beach communities, such as Dune Allen, Seacrest Beach, Grayton Beach, and Alys Beach. And that’s just to get started! 30A has 200 hiking and biking trails that weave through its most magnificent areas including sand dunes, marshlands and its award-winning state parks! And with summer crowds long gone, you’ll have no problem renting a bike in 30A.

Get Hiking!

There are 26 miles of hiking (and biking) trails along Scenic Route 30A that wind through some of the most unique habitats in the world. It’s a trail lover’s paradise. You can access most trails through the area’s state park systems like Grayton Beach State Park, Point Washington State Park and Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, and of course the Timpoochee Trail. Or for a more leisurely trail try the Alys Beach Nature Trail or the Watersound Trail. The Alys Beach Nature Trail winds through a 20-acre nature preserve with most of it on an elevated boardwalk offering stunning views of slash pine forest, cypress trees, open meadows, and wildflowers. The Watersound Trail, is a 5-mile long easy to moderate trail that also offers a leisurely stroll through nature.
