Great Southern Café: When you think of beignets, New Orleans may be the first place to come to mind but did you know beignets date back to the time of Ancient Rome? Sure, Café du Monde may prepare the most famous iteration of this delicious fried dough treat but our local Great Southern Café in Santa Rosa Beach makes an excellent contender for the prize. They are the perfect way to wrap up a meal but also good enough that they deserve a visit all on their own.
The Sugar Shak: This is a popular stop for beachgoers with a craving for something sweet. There’s something for everyone here with a wide variety of candy and a perfect ice cream parlor. Their signature dessert is the Belly Ache, an accurately named colossal ice cream behemoth that includes 16 scoops of ice cream plus ALL their candy toppings: chocolate and rainbow sprinkles, chocolate and caramel syrup, whipped cream and cherries on top.
La Crema: Perfectly situated on Main Street in Rosemary Beach, La Crema is known for their tasty tapas and luscious chocolate. Enjoy some warm, rich sipping chocolate or a latte while you peruse the dessert menu. Chocolate fondue, hot chocolate molten cake, salted caramel ice cream and chocolate dipped bacon are some of the choices you’ll find. You can even get classic gooey chocolate chip cookies with a milk shooter. Not a chocoholic? We suggest the seasonal fruit tart.
Blue Mountain Beach Creamery: Hot Florida summers make ice cream a favorite along Florida’s scenic Highway 30A. This great shop is located in Blue Mountain Beach and they make artisanal ice cream, sorbet and frozen yogurt on site each day. Because they use the freshest ingredients and everything is made in house, the flavor is incredible. Lactose intolerant or dairy free? No problem. Blue Mountain Beach Creamery has wonderful fresh fruit sorbets that are non-fairy and non-fat so you can indulge without guilt.
Frost Bites: This adorable little shaved ice shack in Seaside, Florida is a quick way for a sugar rush. Shaved ice is not your old hard-as-a-rock snocone from the past. This thin shaved ice is light and airy, easy to scoop and refreshing to enjoy. Frost Bites has loads of fun flavors to pick from like candy apple, cherry limeade, big kahuna, ninja juice, lemon lime, fuzzy navel and toasted coconut. You can even add in custard if you want to take your creation to the next level.
Donut Hut: Donuts aren’t just for breakfast anymore. At Donut Hole in Santa Rosa Beach, some of the flavors come FULLY loaded with caramel apple, oreos, candy, maple bacon and more! They are more like a meal to themselves. There’s plenty to pick from as muffins, cakes, filled donuts, glazed donuts, frosted donuts and beignets are all available here. In fact, making your choice might just be the hardest part of all.
The Sweet Peddler: Seacrest Beach’s favorite candy shop boasts TONS of candy, 12 flavor of ice cream and a massive Jelly Belly dispensing station with every flavor you could want. They’ve got all your old school candy favorites and some new ones you’ll be excited to try for the first time. With a friendly and helpful staff, The Sweet Peddler is one of our favorite places to visit with the family to make sweet new memories together.
