When you think of Fall, you may call to mind images of cozy cups of cocoa by the fireplace or a hike on winding trails, feeling the crunch of leaves underfoot. But have you ever pictured yourself relaxing on the beach with a good book as the waves crash before you? That’s a Florida Fall. If you’re looking for a departure from the typical Fall bucket list, a 30A vacation is a wonderful option whether you’re flying solo, as a couple or with the family.

We believe Fall is one of the best times of year to visit 30A and here’s why:

Pros: The Basics

Visiting 30A is fantastic any time of year but there are some benefits specific to visiting 30A in the Fall. Because Labor Day marks the end of the high season (the busiest time of year for tourism,) you’ll find fewer crowds and lower 30A rental rates as well. Even with fewer tourists in the area, the beaches aren’t empty, just less busy than they are during high season.

Unlike other areas in the country, 30A weather usually stays warm throughout the Fall so you’ll still be able to enjoy a warm beach day. If you’re a snowbird looking to escape frigid Fall temps, an Emerald Coast Florida vacation is calling your name. The majority of Fall days are hot in the 30A area (Rosemary Beach, Grayton Beach, Seaside, Destin and more) and perfectly suited for swimming.

30A Nature

We may be biased but we’re convinced Fall sunsets are the best. With less tourists in town, it’s easier to grab a reservation at a restaurant with a spectacular sunset view. Take a stroll on the beach and bask in the intensely colorful rays. Dine al fresco at one of our beautiful 30A vacation rental homes. Almost every evening offers spectacular Fall sunset vistas for you to enjoy.

Beyond sunsets, if you’re a nature lover, 30A is one of the best times to visit. Everything seems more alive as dragonflies dance in the breeze over the sand dunes. Many bird species and Monarch butterflies travel through the area, making a stop along 30A during their annual migration. Biking and hiking become more enjoyable with slightly cooler temps and less humidity. Locals fishermen also suggest that fishing is easier in the Fall too!

Things to Do on 30A in Fall

If you’re worried you’ll miss out on all the fun of summertime activities, you may be surprised to learn there are still plenty of things to do during the Fall. We’ve already mentioned most days are warm enough for swimming but that’s just the beginning of the long list of activities you can enjoy. Try paddleboarding. The Fall is one of the best times to give this activity a try. The water is warm enough you won’t be miserable if you fall in but, the lower humidity in the air makes it a much cooler and more comfortable exercise this time of year. There’s usually a breeze to keep you cool too.

Bike down a trail or take a trip through town. Go hiking along the sand dunes. Enjoy patio dining at your favorite local restaurants or grill out on the porch. Some beaches allow you to do beach bonfires which is the perfect opportunity for roasting marshmallows and making s’mores. Pick up a pumpkin and do some carving. Spend the day browsing the unique seaside boutiques and local shops in town. You can enjoy all the same summertime fun during the Fall and more!

30A Fall Festivals

Fall is the season of local festivals on 30A. This year, during the Fall of 2020, things may be a little different. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many festivals and events may be canceled so be sure to check ahead. In past years, there’s been a plethora of Fall festivals to enjoy like the Destin Seafood Festival, Harvest Food & Wine Festival in Watercolor, Annual Baytowne Beer Festival in Sandestin, Blue Crab Festival in Blue Mountain Beach and more!
